Brian Butler

Director

Since September 2024, Brian has served as the Director of Environmental Quality Management at University of Kentucky. He brings more than 25 years of experience managing the University’s permitted hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facility (TSDF).

Previously, Brian implemented and served as system administrator for the University’s online Waste Tracking Management System, which launched in 2009. He also served as the department’s liaison to UK HealthCare, helping ensure environmental compliance across the enterprise system. In addition to overseeing the University’s Large Quantity Generator (LQG)/TSDF operations, Brian assisted in managing two Small Quantity Generator (SQG) facilities located in Fayette County.

Key Areas of responsibilities

• Develops, implements, and oversees policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations
• Manage environmental incidents and coordinate remediation efforts to minimize operational and environmental risks
• Prepares, submits, and manages environmental permits and regulatory documentation in accordance with compliance requirements
• Supports compliance initiatives related to environmental laws and regulations, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Clean Air Act (CAA)
