The mission of the Environmental Quality Management Department is firmly rooted in providing timely and professional services which extends across all locations and sectors of the University. Serving the greater University community through consultations, inspections, planning, reporting assistance and spill response.

The University positions itself as a leader within the Commonwealth in environmental stewardship.  The Environmental Quality Management (EQM) Department demonstrates that commitment by coordinating the University’s environmental programs and monitoring it’s compliance with applicable laws and regulations. EQM’s responsibilities include:  

 

  • Providing subject matter experts on federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations related to air quality, water management, and hazardous waste disposal, assessment, or abatement.
  • Assist the University’s research, academic, facility operations and healthcare programs to achieve environmental compliance and resource conservation.    
  • Development and implementation of training to educate employees on environmental regulations, policies, and procedures that also provide specific employee responsibilities to achieve environmental compliance. 
  • Providing open and transparent collaboration and communication with University stakeholders to foster trust and ensure accountability in environmental performance. Performing environmental incident investigations, assessment of University regulatory compliance via inspection and reporting, and creation of standards to ensure compliance is maintained.
