Public Involvement and Participation

To engage the UK MS4 community in an active role in both the development and implementation of UK’s stormwater management program.

Citizen involvement can provide valuable input and support to a stormwater program and is critical to its success. The permit contains performance measures for public participation and involvement that include:

• Compliance with applicable Kentucky and local public notice requirements.
• The creation of participation opportunities such as:
  • Stormwater related workgroups or advisory councils
  • Public Hearings
  • Facilitating education volunteers
  • Stormdrain marking
  • Riparian planting
  • Stream clean-up events
• The need to provide public notice of program participation opportunities by methods designed to reach the intended audience.
• Tracking of activities in order to document compliance with the permit and prepare the annual report.
• The recommendation that MCMs 1&2 be developed and implemented concurrently.

Activities that are part of the University’s Stormwater Quality Management Plan include:

• Updating and improving the stormdrain marking program.
• Developing an advertising and awareness campaign to improve program participation.
• Involving students, faculty, and staff in stormwater activities.
• Including involvement and opportunity information on the website upgrades.
